About Us

School History

Dawnville School was established around 1884. For several years, the three month school term was held in various residences throughout the community. From local residences, the school moved into an arbor built in a grove of trees near the present school site. The first building, a one-room structure, was erected around 1890.

After consolidating with four other school districts, Dawnville School moved to a new brick building in 1928. At this time, the school served grades one through eleven in a single building which is still in use.

During the 1954-55 school year, the school was restructured to serve grades one through eight. In 1964 an additional structure was built. Major improvements included a new media center and updated cafeteria. In 1967, a third building was constructed to accommodate a growing student body. In 1975, Dawnville became an elementary school serving kindergarten through fifth grades.

Dawnville has gone through major renovations. In the fall of 2001, the new first, second and third grade wing was completed. This new building housed the more spacious lobby and administrative offices and a beautiful new library, complete with a technology room. It also contains new classrooms and a large music room. Later that school year, the new gymnasium was completed, along with remodeled parking lots and a covered sidewalk for Dawnville's car riders. The kindergarten and the fourth and fifth grade hall were renovated and the cafeteria was expanded to make room for Dawnville's growing population. A playground was also added in the front of the school for the third, fourth, and fifth grades to use during recess. One of the most exciting additions, however, was the construction of a hall that connects all of Dawnville's wings into one building.

Although it has been many years since Dawnville Elementary School served upper grades, the Dawnville Alumni Association remains active and concerned about issues affecting the school.

While many of you already know me, I would like to share more about myself with all of our
Tiger families. I grew up in the Dawnville community attending Whitfield County Schools. My husband, Brian, and I have two grown children, Jordan and Traci, and a daughter-in-love, Jennie, who all attended Whitfield County Schools. We have four grandchildren: Kayden, Jayvin, Jemma, and Jagger. Two of our grandchildren attend Dawnville, while my oldest grandson attends another Whitfield County School. We are truly a One Whitfield family. My heart bleeds purple and gold for our Dawnville Tiger Family. When not loving on or serving our Dawnville Family, I enjoy reading, visiting historical places, thrift shopping, and spending time with my grandbabies. 

I attended Western Governors University, earning a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a Masters in Special Education. My Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and my Tier I Leadership Certification were earned through Piedmont University. I am working toward an Educational Doctorate in Leadership, concentrating on Curriculum and Instruction.

I have been blessed to have the opportunity to learn from and grow to love our Dawnville
students, their families, and our staff. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to make
Dawnville a welcoming place of learning for our students and families. Please know I am here to serve our DES family and always available if you need me.

I am honored and overjoyed to be serving as your Assistant Principal. I have twenty years of experience as an educator for Whitfield County Schools. My first year working in Whitfield County Schools I was actually a paraprofessional right here at Dawnville. 

My experience has been as a special education paraprofessional, teacher, resource teacher, and co-teacher. I have worked in the elementary and high school settings. I spent eight years as a teacher at Antioch Elementary School and eight years as a teacher at Coahulla Creek High School. I then spent three years as the director for the Compass Transition Academy at the NWGA College and Career Academy.I still work with the high school as their swim coach, and I serve as the swim coach for North Whitfield Middle School as well.

I have a wonderful family. My wife Laura is a school counselor. My son Jonah attends Coahulla Creek High School and my daughter Alison goes to North Whitfield Middle. When I am not working I am typically at a swim practice (either as a coach or a dad), playing with our dog, Gizmo, playing a board game, or watching a movie or sports on TV.   

I am honored to serve the students and families of Dawnville. I am committed to building our school community and supporting our students and families in whatever ways I can. I will try every day to make sure our school is a safe and welcoming place for all of us, and a place where all students will thrive. I am very proud to be a part of your Tiger family!
